MTP Cabinet in Natural Oak by Marian Grabinski for Ikea, 1960s

Beautiful IKEA cabinet that was initially designed as a wedding gift for Ingvar Kamprad, the founder of IKEA. Kamprad liked the cabinet so much, that in 1963 it was available in all IKEA stores as the MTP series. Please note that it wasn’t until 1963 that IKEA’s first branch outside Sweden opened. It was Norway that got the honor. The first branch in Denmark only came in 1969! Please note: good IKEA furniture from the early 1960s is rare, and therefore this item is collectable!

The cabinet has acquired a beautiful warm colour over time. The cabinet is in excellent condition, apart from a minimal wear and tear. It’s refinished by my restorer, but she didn’t remove the natural wear that gives character.

Even helemaal anders! Deze Chinese kast is prachtig bewerkt met stenen in Aziatische stijl. Voorzien van een merksticker aan de achterzijde (zie foto) Periode: 1970-1980. Het lakwerk is geïnspireerd op het bekende Yangzhou lakwerk. Dit is een traditionele ambacht & techniek uit China, bekend om zijn details. Deze kast is verfraaid met parelmoer schelpen en Aziatische stenen, De dansende Geisha’s dames op de kast zijn gemaakt van opgelegde stenen die zorgen voor een bijzonder gedetailleerd reliëf. Deze kast is in een goede vintage staat. Absoluut te gek voor in een eclectisch, vintage of in een modern interieur.

Vintage Design

This highboard is an original from the 1960s. It consists of two components and was manufactured in Germany.
The surfaces of the cabinet are refined with walnut and makoré (African pear tree) veneer.
Two keys are part of the equipment.

The upper element consists of a spacious showcase. Access is made of glass with a gold decorative cut. Two glass shelves are included there. On the left there is further storage space behind a sliding door made of wood, which is divided by two wooden shelves.

The lower furniture element is divided by a swing door and a double door. Three drawers and a wooden shelving board are installed.
